Health and Diet: the construction of food choice in later life. - AN0907
|
Description
In 1993 the ESRC approved the funding (146K) for a
collaborative study of food choice in later life to be
conducted at the University of Nottingham. Over a 3 year
period this ESRC study will collect information on food
choices and the factors influencing food choices, in
mationally representative samples of older people living in
urban Nottingham. The study proposed here will develop the
resources already committed to the ESRC project and
substantially extend the scientific scope of the
investigation in order economically to meet both ESRC and
MAFF research priorities. Funds are requested to develop 3
specific areas of the existing ESRC protocol; i) the
addition of a rural sample; ii) the inclusion of a 3rd and
younger cohort aged 55-64; and iii) the inclusion of a
specific focus on the compumption (and factors influencing
the consumption) of fruit, vegetables and dietary
supplements. |
Objective
To identify the most important social, economic and personal
factors influencing food choice among middle aged and older
adults living at home and to permit comparative analyses
between urban and rural communities. |
