Investigation into mesh distortion in square mesh netting - MF0607

Description
R&D Summary Objectives:- Investigate the potential use of square mesh netting as a design feature for improving the selectivity of trawl nets, particularly its resistance to distortion. Key customer purposes:- Ensure square mesh netting is a practical design feature for use in developing more selective fishing gear.
Objective
To investigate if and by other means (other than other attachments) the mesh openings in square mesh panels can be kept reduced with a view to assessing the strength of the characteristic of the mesh being kept open. To develop practical means of design of square mesh codends and panels and of their attachment within extension pieces or codends in order to ensure that areas and shapes of escape openings are maintained.
