Oligomers and additives in polymer-based packaging. - FS2209

Description
Chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques will be employed to determine levels of oligomers and additives in plastics, lacquers, sealants, elastomers and rubbers used in packaging materials. Both chromatographic instrumentation established in previous and existing MAFF-supported projects and new equipment to establish coupled column chromatography for automated separations will be used for characterisation.
Objective
1. To develop chromatographic methods to extract oligomers and additives from these polymers. 2. To establish the automated technique of coupled column chromatography for these separations. 3. To identify separated oligomers and additives and determine whether levels are significant in various polymers.
