FEASIBILITY STUDY ON DEVELOPMENTS IN COMPUTER MODELLING OF BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY FOR POTENTIAL UTILITY IN RISK ASSESSMENT - FS1807

Description
To investigate the practical potential of computerised expert systems for the toxicological prioritisation of food chemicals by developing a limited rule based demonstration system.
Objective
1) To demonstrate the possibility that an expert system can be of practical use to MAFF to support the prioritisation of substances for toxicological concern; 2) To demonstrate the possibility that an expert system can identify potential toxic hazards and support the planning of surveillance programmes initiated by MAFF; 3) To provide information about other toxicological expert systems that might be used by MAFF; and 4) To provide information on the merits of using expert systems.
