Description
THE MAIN STAGE OF THE NDNS: CHILDREN 1.5 - 4.5 YEARS.
Objective
1. To provide detailed quantitative information on the food and nutrient intake, sources of nutrients and nutritional status of pre-school children; 2. To provide a database of food, drink and nutrient intake of pre-school children against which future changes in dietary behaviour can be measured; 3. To characterise the children at upper and lower levels of intake for specific nutrients; 4. To provide data to assist with the development of dietary guidelines for pre-school children; 5. To provide a database to enable the calculation of like- ly dietary intakes of natural toxicants, contaminants and additiives for risk assessment; 6. To characterise the social and domestic facilities which may relate to how young children are fed; 7. To compare results with anthropometric data and to compare these with social and dietary data as well as data from blood analyses; 8. To measure blood indexes (funded separately by DH) to give evidence of nutritional status, especially iron; 9. To publish the results through HMSO in a joint report by MAFF, DH and Contractor.
