Reproductive behaviour and physiology (Transferred to SEEDCORN SC0110 = MF0124; 4/93) - MF0107

Description
R&D Summary Objectives:- Describe the role of gonadal pheromones and environmental factors in promoting spawning in plaice and sole, in order to reduce the risk of recruitment overfishing. Key customer purpose:- For stock management purposes, provide a clearer understanding of the need to maintain a minimum spawning stock in order to prevent recruitment failure.
Objective
1.To reveal the mechanisms by which selected commercial fish species congregate on specific spawning grounds and synchronise their spawning process. 2.To identify other environmental factors affecting spawning. 3.To assess the significance of the results obtained for stock assessment, or for other applications.
