Licensing, Enforcement and Monitoring of Deposits at Sea Under FEPA part II 1985. - AE0201

Non R&D Summary Objectives:- Provide national and international scientific support on matters relating to dumping at sea including potential environmental impact of wastes at specific sites. Assess the impact on the marine environment at disposal sites. Key customer purpose:- Fulfil statutory duties under FEPA II and Conventions to control the dumping of wastes at sea.
1.To advise the MEPD on the potential environmental impact of wastes for which applications to dump at sea have been submitted. 2.To service the scientific obligations of the Ministry to the international dumping conventions and other outside bodies. 3.To provide scientific support nationally and internationally for the UK's policies on disposal at sea within the wider context of other waste disposal options. 4.To enforce the scientific terms and conditions of licenses, as directed. 5.To obtain and report sufficient information on the effects of licensed waste disposal on the marine environment to permit the authoritative execution of objectives 1 to 4 above. (Monitoring to be done by MAFF or, as a condition of their licenses, by licensees, as appropriate.)
