Protected Area coverage/effectiveness headline indicator for target 3 of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework - BE01105

Description
The aim of this project is to assess which indicators are best for measuring the effectiveness of protected areas for biodiversity, to support the implementation of the landmark target to protect 30% of land and sea by 2030.
Objective
The objectives are:
• To ensure that Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity are aware of suitable approaches to assess protected area effectiveness.
• To focus on a simple and meaningful approach that is feasible for all Parties and easy to communicate. Feasibility must take into consideration cost, time, technology, training, acceptance and other factors that could hinder uptake.
• To ensure that methodologies are suitable for both land and sea protected areas.
