UK Marine Policy & Legislation Review for Implementing Marine Net Gain - AE1603

Description
This report presents an analysis of the UK government policy and delivery landscape to support the
development and implementation of the concept of Marine Net Gain (MNG). It establishes the baseline
of policy frameworks and legislative mechanisms that could interact with MNG. This will support Defra in
understanding how MNG could be delivered through existing management processes, as well as new or
emerging delivery routes, including constraints and opportunities that may be associated with different
regimes. In addressing MNG, the analysis seeks to ensure consistency and coherence with the existing
network of protections to help identify where it could be applied to add value.
Objective
The Offshore Wind Enabling Actions Programme aim is to enable the responsible and sustainable growth of offshore wind, recognising its essential contribution to meeting the Government’s climate change commitments, whilst ensuring the protection of our marine environment. The marine net gain work stream is one of the four workstreams supporting this aim, and contributing to Defra’s commitment under the 25 Year Environment Plan.
