Assessment of a potential ban on single use plastic bags - EQ0119

The UK Government’s 25 year plan has specific target for eliminating ‘avoidable’ plastics by the end of 2042 and an intention to significantly reduce all kinds of marine plastic.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) wanted to better understand the economic impact of introducing a ban on single-use plastic bags, as one of a range of possible policy options.
Eunomia was commissioned to undertake a preliminary assessment of the economic impact of a possible ban on single-use plastic bags. The focus of the assessment was the plastic bags that are currently in scope of the charge. This report shows the findings from that assessment
