Description
The project will aim to provide evidence based recommendations on animal welfare during transport, focussing particularly on the main farmed species subject to regular transport in the UK. The objectives for this work should include: „h Undertake a systematic review of the evidence on animal welfare during transport, including through markets. This should include a review of methods of handling and preparing the animals prior to transport. „h Assess the scale of the live export trade from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and collate information on the conditions and journey times currently adopted, as well as the ultimate destinations of the animals. The work should include an assessment of the live animal trade flows between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. „h Collate information on journeys within the UK, in terms of the journey times and conditions currently adopted. „h Establish if there are any outstanding urgent research needs in this area. „h Provide clear evidence based recommendations on measures to achieve high welfare during Transport |
