Developing a modelling tool to assist with prioritising investments in natural capital - BE0126
|
Description
The natural capital model and subsequent tool will help users to prioritise environmental interventions (as part of the development of the Government’s 25 Year Environment Plan) by signposting those with greatest net benefits and value for money.
NEVO is a web-based application that allows government, businesses, and the public to access the power of NERC-funded natural capital models through an easy-to-use map-based interface. It makes use of state-of-the-art environmental and economic models developed by the University of Exeter in a user-friendly interface.
This interface works across multiple land uses such as agriculture, livestock, woodlands and urban areas, and considers hypothetical changes in a wide range of natural capital services (e.g. food production, water quality and quantity, greenhouse gas storage, recreation, biodiversity). Importantly, NEVO allows users to query the underpinning natural capital models in order to answer questions of their own design and to quantify and value the associated natural capital services.
NEVO is accessible via this address : https://www.leep.exeter.ac.uk/nevo |
Objective
1) To fund the development and expansion of spatially explicit, integrated, natural capital model to cover a broad range of Defra Group interests including land management change.
2) To develop an accessible user interface for the natural capital model (thereby turning it into a useable tool for Government and other stakeholders).
