Development of the Life-Form and State-Spaced method to operationalise plankton indicators for the MSFD - ME5312

Description
Description

Defra has appointed AFBI to manage and execute activities necessary to develop and operationalise planktonic indicators for Biological diversity (Descriptor 1), Food Webs (Descriptor 4), Eutrophication (Descriptor 5) and Seafloor integrity (Descriptor 6) under the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD).

The research will support Defra's implementation of the first two stages of the MSFD for pelagic habitats, including operationalising targets and indicators already submitted to the European Commission, and providing options on the monitoring programme for the second phase of the MSFD.
Objective
Objective

This work will operationalise indicators for delivery of the pelagic component of biodiversity under the MSFD (based on suitable UK plankton datasets) together with the planktonic components for the eutrophication, food- webs and seafloor integrity descriptors.
