Local Level Rural Proofing - RE0246

In 2013 Defra published an updated version of the CRC’s Rural Proofing Toolkit originally published in 2009. While the updated guidance material is applicable at all levels of Government, it is targeted at national-level policy-makers, not least because the Government has no formal locus in requiring local level public sector organisations to rural proof their own policies and services.

However, Defra knows that many local level service design and delivery practitioners do take account of their rural responsibilities in designing and delivering their services. In consultation with our stakeholders we have identified an evidence gap concerning the underlying principles of good practice and exemplars of good practice at a local level.
This research project aims to gather examples of good practice in service design and delivery from local level service delivery practitioners, to synthesise from these the underlying principles of good practice and to make both available to end users
