Product Groups/Sectors and Companies to Target for Maximising Environmental Improvement in Products - EV0463
|
Description
With a view to reducing the GHG emissions and wider environmental impacts associated with products, Defra SPC Assessment and Tools team are developing their strategy for increasing the uptake in business of Carbon Footprint (CF) and wider Life Cycle Thinking/Assessment (LCT/LCA) – to assess the impacts of products.
The Defra SPC Product Roadmap team are also considering approaches for increasing uptake in business of ecodesign - to prevent, minimise and manage the life cycle environmental impacts.
Two strategies are proposed to maximise the environmental impact reduction opportunities that can support the work of both Defra SPC teams:-
- Targeting those product groups/sectors with the most significant GHG emissions and wider environmental impacts (resource depletion (energy and water), waste, toxicity etc.) across their supply chain.
- Within these product groups/sectors targeting those organisations that can drive product related environmental improvements across the supply chain. These are consumer product retailers with significant purchasing power and the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) (i.e. the brand owner with control over the product design and specification).
As a first step in developing the strategy, this project will identify the product groups/sectors and companies within them to target.
This study was undertaken by Global View Sustainability Services Ltd (GVSS) under the SCPW framework contract administrated by AEA |
