Control and risk management of honey bee pests and diseases - PH0506
|
Description
Control and risk management of honey bee pests and diseases (Defra project number; PH0506)
This project consists of four main modules with different themes in support of bee health policy. The first module will identify effective, environmentally safe methods which can be used for SHB treatment should it arrive in the UK. This module will also investigate alternative control methods for SHB. Secondly, the project will collect additional information to assess the impact and virus association of Nosema spp. on UK colonies. Thirdly, the project will review existing Varroa control methods of all types, to identify how they may be combined in an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programme for Varroa that comprises two or more complementary techniques. In the fourth module, the project will complete a comprehensive risk assessment for the predatory Tropilaelaps mites.
