Description
Defra published its ‘Survey of Public Attitudes and Behaviour Towards the Environment’, in 2007. It provides a comprehensive baseline of pro-environmental attitudes and behaviours. This tracker will monitor core elements from that survey; and will address new areas whose potential to inform policy and communications development has been identified, together with issues relevant to the work of the Energy Saving Trust who are co-funding this survey. It will identify changes in people's beliefs, attitudes, and values in relation to the environment, climate change and pro-environmental behaviour, and to monitor reported motivations and barriers, and self reported behaviours across a range of behavioural areas (in the home and travel).
It will also enable Defra and EST to assess and baseline attitudes and behaviours in the new areas. The tracker is intended to complement other ongoing Defra tracking surveys, such as the Act on CO2 tracker.
The tracker will also enable the Energy Saving Trust (EST) to monitor specific energy-related attitudes and behaviours, and the ways in which these may have changed since the undertaking of other recent EST surveys.
