Evaluation of Risk Assessment Approaches for Manufactured Nanomaterials - CB0403

Objectives

1. The overall objective of the project is to evaluate and make recommendations on risk assessment approaches for manufactured nanomaterials through information exchange (across OECD) and, through an understanding of any unique challenges nanomaterials present, to identify opportunities to strengthen and enhance risk assessment capacity.
2. The OECD Steering Group has agreed the following three detailed objectives that the successful applicant will be required to achieve:

a. Exchange, collate and synthesise information on current risk assessment approaches for industrial chemicals that may apply to manufactured nanomaterials
i.e. where risk assessments are currently being conducted for nanomaterials or where risk assessment approaches are being considered for extension to nanomaterials (e.g. the Technical Guidance Document in support of the REACH chemicals legislation).
This will consider risk assessment strategies, methodologies and those supporting tools that offer the potential to enhance and strengthen risk assessment. An Information Request sent out to OECD WPMN delegations, collated by the Secretariat and provided to the Steering Group will serve as the information source for the contractor to meet this objective.
Undertake a gap analysis of current risk assessment approaches as these apply to manufactured nanomaterials.
This will identify and consider any unique issues that manufactured nanomaterials present in the context of the risk assessment methodologies identified and described in the first objective.
b. Make recommendations to the Steering Group for addressing and filling identified gaps.
