Designing a Generic Approach to Regional Environmental Assessments (REAs) for the Marine Aggregates Industry - ME1203
|
Description
(Key Customer) Purpose - Why is the R&D needed?
The aggregate industry and the regulators, through their technical advisors, have identified a series of overarching, generic objectives for the Regional Environmental Assessment (REA) process. There is a need for work to take account of the views of the wider stakeholder community (e.g. fishing industry, academics and NGO’s) and those who have had experience of equivalent activities (e.g. QSR’s, SEA’s) and a need to improve the consistency of information gathering and the design of survey work.
Refinements to the over-arching objectives of REA’s for aggregates may also help in the future for other sectors (e.g. offshore renewables) and the outputs feed into future government initiatives such as Marine Spatial Planning (MSP).
Summary Objectives
The objective of this proposal is to augment and if necessary revise the REA’s already commissioned, and further develop a framework for information gathering within a generic REA process, which takes account of all relevant stakeholder views, and can be tested and refined to ensure its relevance and practicability in the context of REA’s already being undertaken by the aggregate industry.
