Economic Evaluation of the British Potato Council - ER02035
|
Description
The British Potato Council was established under the Industrial Organisation and Development Act 1947 by the Potato Industry Development Council Order 1997. Its primary functions are to commission research and development, carry out home market and export promotion and collect and disseminate statistical information for the potato industry. It is financed by a statutory levy on growers (area) and specified purchasers (tonnage). Around 7,500 growers and 2,000 purchasers currently pay the levy which generates an income of about £6 million.
As With all Development Councils established under the Industrial Organisation and Development Act 1947, the British Potato Council is subject to an initial review after three years, followed by quinquennial reviews. The initial review is due to be completed by April 2000.
