New approaches to evaluating and quantifying the benefits of chemical regulation - contract 2 - CB01069
Description
The aim of this project is to develop a new approach to identifying, quantifying and where appropriate monetising the environmental benefits arising from chemicals regulation by seeking to develop hazard-benefit relationships for substances of concern based on historical evidence.
The work will have the following three objectives:
1. Identify suitable example substances of concern based on historical evidence to be used as case-studies and collect the evidence establishing a link between the substance and effects reported in the environment.
2. Quantify (and where possible monetise) the link between the substances’ hazardous characteristics and the effect(s) reported in the environment.
3. Develop a generic model to estimate potential costs of not implementing future chemical management legislation.
This project will take account of the linked project being undertaken by Lancaster University and both contractors will share results of each others' projects to maximise output.
