Substitution of fish meal with vegetable proteins in cod diets - FC0930

Summary Objective
Earlier work with salmon has indicated that the substitution of fish meal with vegetable proteins is possible but with consequences for fish growth and condition, depending on the level of substitution. No similar published data are available for marine finfish species in cold temperate waters. The situation in these species may be different as there is a higher proportion of protein in the diet with considerably less lipid (e.g. c12% v 28%). This short term cod feeding trial is designed to test different levels of fish meal replacement with vegetable proteins with reduced carbohydrate and minimal anti-nutritional factors. Growth and feed conversion will be monitored.

Key Customer Purpose
To help ensure the sustainability of feeds for marine finfish species by optimising the use of limited fish meal resources in formulated diets.
