Ecology of Subtidal Mussel Seed Beds - FC1015

Description
Summary Objective:
Mussel seed beds are used as the source of mussels for commercial seabed cultivation in England and Wales. This project will provide a better understanding of the ecological importance of mussel seed beds and help to assess the potential impact of harvesting and translocating mussel seed.

Key Customer Purpose:
The UK Government has a duty to ensure that marine resources are harvested in a sustainable manner such that the integrity of the ecosystem is maintained while taking into account the social and economic needs of people whose living depends upon these resources. It is important to understand better the ecology of mussel seedbeds to inform management decisions regarding their exploitation and conservation.
