Investigation of potato cyst nematode (PCN) control - HH3111TPO
|
Description
This desk study will be completed in four phases. These will include a critical review of research reported in the literature, a brief report of the structure and economics of potato production and factors affecting technology transfer, a broad consultative Open Forum, and a presentation of the report to members of a Steering Committee to provide quality assurance. Research scientists, growers and representatives in the supply chain will be invited to contribute to a 2-day Open Forum to discuss the current situation with PCN management and future needs, in the light of predicted changes in potato production within the UK. Information collected from the literature, data available from the industry and issues raised at the Open Forum will be brought together into a report, which will include recommendations for research needs in 3-5 years and those that will require longer investment to provide outputs that could be exploited. The report will be submitted to DEFRA within 6 months. |
Objective
The six-month desk study will have the following objectives:
1) To critically assess existing knowledge of PCN management and to consult widely to determine future trends in research on nematode management, and in consumer, policy and industry demands.
2) To write a report on this review, which will include recommendations for future research priorities and identify those that will deliver practical outputs in 3-5 years and those that will require a longer period of development.
