PROJECT CLOSING STATEMENT:
The objectives of the project were largely achieved and overall the results of the project are significant to Defra and the flood risk management industry. Data for benefits assessment, a key part of appraisal, have been updated, and other research areas such as the benefits from avoiding damage to utilities, non residential property and the environment have provided more information to use in appraisal. Also, there is good research into the damage reducing effect of a flood.
Re-assess the non-residential property flood damage database and consolidate earlier research so as to deliver a flood defence appraisal manual updating current flood defence practices as set out in the `HM Treasury Green Book`, and the incorporation of key results from newly completed research on human related intangible impacts and public awareness.
KEY CUSTOMER PURPOSE:
The benefit of this research will be a modified, and policy relevant, version of the data sets for calculating the benefits of flood alleviation and erosion control. This will help to ensure that the benefit assessments for appraising coastal defence and flood alleviation works are more accurate in the future than they have been in the past, thereby yielding benefits in terms of more cost-effective
