Modelling environmental distribution and fate of POPs on a national, European and global scale - CB01016

Description
CGMP Division contribution to project managed by AEQ Division

The aim of the project was to establish and predict the movement of persistent organic pollutants in the environment with a view to identifying the policy options that would most efficiently reduce emissions or the risk to human health and the environment. The project involved identifying and collecting data on a range of POP chemicals according to the scientific criteria laid out in the UNECE POPs Protocol and Convention. A series of models was developed to predict the spatial and temporal movement of such chemicals on a national, regional and global scale. These were combined with human exposure models and cost-curves to assess trends and target areas for possible emission reductions.
