Brown shrimp fishery by catch reduction - MF0609

Description
R&D Summary Objectives:- Design and test selectivity devices, such as separater panels for use in the brown shrimp fishery of the Humber Estuary. Key customer purpose:- Enable MAFF to consider introducing technical measures for the brown shrimp fishery, in order to reduce the discard of juvenile fish.
Objective
a) To design an appropriate fish separator screen for use in both Shrimp, Beam and Otter trawls utilising the Flume tank. b) To test the effectiveness of the separator screens by using twin trawling techniques and to allow for a reliable analysis of comparative data. c) To compare the release of unwanted Bycatch with the retention of marketable shrimp.
