|
Description
Project closing statement
Guidance and recommendations to enhance and increase the take up of managed realignment as a strategic flood and coastal defence.
Summary Objective:
To produce guidance and recommendations to enhance and increase the take up of managed realignment as a strategic flood and coastal defence policy option aimed at enhance flood and coastal defence sustainability and achieve environmental gains.
Key Customer Purpose:
Managed realignment is the deliberate process of realigning a defence for the purpose of improving the overall efficiency of the coastal defence or flood alleviation system. It is one of the strategic options for managing defences within river catchments, estuarine and open coast situations. However, there has been very little agreement on how it might be implemented. Submissions to various select committees and commissions, feedback from regional flood defence committees and the Policy Development Theme Advisory Group(PDTAG) members, output from SMP promotion and discussions at conferences all demonstrate that there is an urgent need for a better understanding of issues associated with managed realignment. A better understanding of how to adopt this policy option will assist and improve implementation. |
Objective
Summary Objective:

Key Customer Purpose:
Recommend approaches to overcome constraints to managed re-alignement (economics, policy, culture, funding and ownership) so as to improve the uptake of this option for managing coastal, estuarine or riverine defences. |
