Improved Monitoring of Fish Cathches and Production of Fisheries Statistics. - MF0115

Description
R&D Summary Objectives:- Develop an electronic data recording system as an alternative to the current EC logbook method for catch, fishing position and fishing gear and intergrate with the landbased Fisheries Inspectorate system. Key customer purpose:- Provide greater accuracy and reliability of fishing position reported by vessels and reduce Inspectorate`s manpower requirement for inputting logbook data.
Objective
a)The development of prototype software for the recording of fish catch data into a more robust system against a performance specification to be agreed between the Research Organisation and MAFF. b) The integration of appropriate microcomputer and marine navigation equipment to run the software in (a) above, such that the vessels position is continuously monitored and recorded as required, and the proving of its performance in trials at sea. c) The development of means of transferring catch data from fishing vessels into the land based Fisheries Inspectorate system which will prevent deliberate or accidental corruption of the data. d) The development of software to enable fish catch data from fishing vessels to be read in to the land based system for reconciliation with landing data in the production of compiled statistics.
